Dr Bianca Sava

Psychiatrist

RANZCP

What I can help with:

- Concerns about toddlers and preschool children: behavoural and emotional difficulties, parent-child relationship struggles, difficulties bonding, etc. I can help with understanding the reason for the difficulties, in a supportive, non-judgemental way. I can also work with parents so that together we find ways to move things in a positive direction.

- Autism spectrum disorder assessment for 2.5-5 year old children

- Insight oriented psychotherapy, i.e. help clients understand some of the deeper reasons for their difficulties in an accepting, non-judgemental environment, so that they can experience more freedom to react in ways that work better for them

- Supervision for clinicians working in mental health, in particular by offering a safe space to explore any difficulties encountered in this work

Background

After having obtained my medical degree in Romania, I trained in general psychiatry in the USA, and specialised in child and adolescent psychiatry. During my training, I obtained a significant experience in psychodynamic psychotherapy and other psychotherapeutic interventions. I moved to New Zealand in 2005. I initially worked in Adult Mental Health, Maternal Mental Health and Child and Adolescent Mental Health. For the past 15+ years, I have been primarily working in Infant Mental Health (pregnancy to 5 years old) in the public system. For the past few years I have also worked in private practice primarily doing mental health assessments and adult therapy.
